About us

Pearmain Pubs is an independent pub company set up back in 2008 with the aim of creating smart, good looking pubs with defined restaurant areas offering great fresh food and an up to date range of beers and wines. Pubs where drinkers and eaters alike are looked after with the same friendly and professional service.

Each of our pubs has been carefully chosen & sympathetically restored.  The lovely old buildings have been given a fresh new start, using quality materials & furnishings and a quirky twist on the design and décor. They all have lovely gardens too, essential these days to meet our customers al fresco dining aspirations. We have created wonderful atmospheres in which to eat, drink and entertain.

The Pearmain Directors have worked together since they were in their twenties. Richard and Julia Brown met Anthony and Tracy Hancock where they built up the Blubeckers and Edwinns restaurant groups, both renowned for quality and innovation at that time. Using this rich history, together with Chef Director Graham Day & his kitchen experience & Operations Director Duncan Mcliesh they formed Pearmain Pubs back in 2008 and opened their first pub The Red Lion in Horsell.  This was followed by the Three Horseshoes Laleham in 2009, The Onslow Arms, West Clandon & Old Plough Stoke D’abernon in 2011, The Crown St Margarets in 2013 and The Wheatsheaf in Esher in 2015. We have recently opened our newest addition to the family, The Grantley Arms in Wonersh in April 2017.

A combination of recruiting the best people, great training and promoting from within the business as we have grown, has developed teams that are absolutely part of us and we are very proud of them.  Informed, efficient & friendly service, great menus of fresh locally sourced ingredients prepared on our premises and cooked to order by our enthusiastic and experienced chefs.

Richard Brown - Director

A committed caterer with over 30 year’s experience running pubs & restaurants. Worked with Anthony & Tracy Hancock in developing and expanding the Blubeckers & Edwinns restaurants, was then MD of the business until it was incorporated into The Restaurant Group in 2007.
Married to Julia with a family of 5 sons, 3 of whom are currently working in the business. Richard is keen on keeping fit, staying young and supporting Brentford FC!

Anthony Hancock - Director

Anthony Hancock - Director

Anthony started young , opening the first of the many Blubeckers outlets at the age of 20 with Tracy, who later became his wife (and also a Pearmain Director) and mum to their five offspring! His first and only job was as an apprentice mechanic, but soon discovered the joys of eating out, and watching happy restaurant customers asking to pay their bill after having a great time. He was hooked.. These days he uses his extensive business background to support the wonderful Pearmain team, many of whom he has worked with for a very long time, and that is something which he is truly proud of.

Leigh Diggins - Group Executive Chef

Leigh trained in Switzerland before working in some of London’s top Michelin Starred Restaurants. Recently Leigh was executive Head Chef at the famous Wentworth club for over 5 years. He has a passion for great fresh food and quality produce. When Leigh is not in the Kitchen his competitive nature sees him serving his way to victory on a tennis court and relaxing with his wife Nichola his children Thomas & Ellis

Duncan Mcliesh - Operations Director

Hospitality graduate Duncan's career started in pubs, he then moved on to contract catering, hotels and restaurants. He has brought all his experience back to what he is passionate about. Great food, great service and great pubs! Duncan is married to Christie who works at the Red Lion Horsell. They have two gorgeous girls, Bonnie & Lyla.
